Saving a UA brother’s life with the Heimlich manoeuver

When a fellow member with UA Local 170 was choking on dinner one night in 2013, Willy Coyle of UA Local 67 jumped into action and saved his peer’s life.Wayne Wardle, soudeur membre du local 170 de l’UA, commençait à devenir bleu lorsqu’il s’étouffait sans faire de bruit au souper dans la salle à manger du chantier à l’extérieur de Fort McMurray, en Alberta, en 2013. Dans l’effervescence de cette salle, son frère de syndicat, Willy Coyle, monteur de conduites de vapeur du local 67 de l’UA, était le seul à savoir quoi faire.

2015 UA Western Canada Apprentice Competition Winners!

The UA Western Canada Apprentice Competition was held at the UA Piping Industry College of BC last month and members from across the region took part. “Congratulations to the winners and to all the apprentices who competed. We were so very impressed by your skills and with your enthusiasm and energy throughout the competition,” said Executive Director, Al Philips of the UA Piping Industry College of British Columbia. This year’s competition was made possible by UA members Chris Henriksen (Local 179), Chris Waples (Local 488), Steve Ducharme (Local 254), Matt Buss (Local 516), Jamie McPherson (Local 324) and Alisdair Reid (Local 324) who helped with the planning, co-ordination and judging of the competition. UAPICBC instructors, staff and volunteers also put in a lot time and hard work planning and hosting this successful event.
